Happy three day weekend AVID! I am excited to meet with all of you on Tuesday for our class Zooms. Remember, cameras are required, and appropriate behavior is expected. If you have a conflict due to another class, email me ASAP.
At that meeting, I am running a lesson on some major changes with college expectations and admissions that will influence your applications in even three years. I am also introducing our final assignment of the year. Have your AVID notes ready to copy down the details.
Below is this week's agenda - read it thoroughly as all the details you need are listed below:
1. AVID Mandatory Zoom - Tuesday, 5/26
A. We are meeting as a class to go over college admissions changes, AVID's last assignment, etc.
B. Attendance is for a grade
*If you cannot attend, contact me with a solid reason why, and we will discuss your
alternative assignment.
C. Meeting Details
1. 1st Period 10:00 - 10:30
2. 2nd Period 10:30 - 11:00
D. Requirements
1. Camera on - this is not an option
2. AVID notes ready
3. School appropriate dress and behavior - that includes staying in the screen the entire
lesson.
ZOOM LINKS WILL BE EMAILED ONE HOUR PRIOR TO THE MEETING ON 5/26. Check your school email if you do not see it in your main email inbox.
2. Workshops - For those who have not attended one yet...
A. Attend the last workshop - See C below
1. Take notes during the workshop.
2. Turn those notes into Cornell Notes.
B. Submit those Cornell Notes for a grade in your OneNote college binder.
1. In the "College Research" tab
2. Create a page titled "Workshop".
3. NOTES DUE May 28th
C. Workshop: Exploring Out of State Options 1. Date - May 27th
2. Time - 3:30 P.M.
3. You must pre-register at the following link:
https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_7SwDrdj2QVGDBA1pKGw9hQ
*Once you register, you will receive an email with the webinar's link and directions.
3. Agenda 5-25 to 5-29 DUE FRIDAY, 5-29 by 11:59 P.M.
*You are to fill in your agenda EACH DAY, listing each item due (be specific - "power notes" is not enough...which power notes?) and the date or day it is due. See previous agendas for detailed directions.
4. TUTORIAL
There is no tutorial this week. Our last tutorial will be next Tuesday, June 2nd. Signups will be emailed on Friday, May 29th.
5. College Research - Last college this year due May 27th
A. Finish College #10 in your OneNote notebook.
B. FREE/REDUCED TUITION COLLEGE - this college must be one of the tuition free colleges
offered in the United States
1. As tuition has been such a burden for students, the conversation about its removal has
been a hot topic for years. But, are free colleges worth the trade off? For this last college
this year, we will take a look at how one free/reduced tuition college stacks up against the
others you have researched.
2. For a list of such colleges, see the following article from Forbes:
https://www.forbes.com/sites/zackfriedman/2018/11/27/colleges-no-student-loans/#3ec54826156d
C. Be sure you complete all 9 items - see your notes and your previous colleges.
D. I also posted the directions on our website under the "College" red button at the bottom of
the home page.
6. Summer School
For those of you considering summer school, please read the following:
A. You can find the list of courses here https://www.pvpss.com/summer-2020-high-school-online
courses/
B. ALL courses will be online this summer.
C. Registration - see information here https://www.pvpss.com/summerhsregistration/
D. Remember, summer school is not required. It is also not free. Please, if you have not already,
speak with your parents about your thoughts on or needs for summer school.
Don't give up now - it's almost the end! I will see you Tuesday,
Mrs. Sidella
