The countdown begins as we have only 3 weeks left until finals. Make sure you are checking your school Outlook email as important updates on the end of year have been sent out in the past week from our administration.

As the School Board rolls out its new No Harm policy on grades, I want you to realize that, as an AVID student, you are to keep doing all assigned work for the rest of the year. You need to continue your assignments and any assessments through the end, despite the No Harm policy, as doing so will prepare you for next year's materials, which are far tougher than this year's. You also need to continue as I will see how you handle this choice, and I cannot write a recommendation letter in the future for any student, AVID or not, who chooses to stop their studies rather than continue to grow as a student.

Finishing the year despite this policy will speak volumes about who you are. It will speak volumes to colleges, to me, and to you. Three weeks left - you've got this!

Below is this week's agenda - please READ EVERYTHING!

1. AVID Mandatory Zoom - Tuesday, 5/26

A. We are meeting as a class to go over grading policies, changes for next year, etc.

B. Attendance is for a grade

*If you cannot attend, contact me with a solid reason why, and we will discuss your

alternative assignment.

C. Meeting Details

1. 1st Period 10:00 - 10:30

2. 2nd Period 10:30 - 11:00

*I checked the other teacher's Zooms/video lessons, and there are no conflicts that day.

2. Workshops - Choose One

If you haven't signed up for a conference yet, do so today! We have three opportunities left. You are required to complete the following for a grade:

A. Attend one of the workshops (You may attend more, but only ONE is required).

B. Take notes during the workshop.

C. Turn those notes into Cornell Notes.

D. Submit those Cornell Notes for a grade in your OneNote college binder.

1. In the "College Research" tab

2. Create a page titled "Workshop".

4. TUTORIAL

We are hosting an optional tutorial this Tuesday, May 19th. Sign ups are due by Monday, May 18th at noon to Sign Up Genius - https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090d4facab22a4fd0-avid1

5. College Research - Last college this year due May 27th

A. Finish College #10 in your OneNote notebook.

B. FREE/REDUCED TUITION COLLEGE - this college must be one of the tuition free colleges

offered in the United States

i. As tuition has been such a burden for students, the conversation about its removal has been

a hot topic for years. But, are free colleges worth the trade off? For this last college this

year, we will take a look at how one free/reduced tuition college stacks up against the others

you have researched.

ii. For a list of such colleges, see the following article from Forbes:

https://www.forbes.com/sites/zackfriedman/2018/11/27/colleges-no-student-loans/#3ec54826156d

C. Be sure you complete all 9 items - see your notes and your previous colleges.

D. I also posted the directions on our website under the "College" red button at the bottom of

the home page.

6. Summer School

For those of you considering summer school, please read the following:

A. You can find the list of courses here https://www.pvpss.com/summer-2020-high-school-online

courses/

B. ALL courses will be online this summer.

C. Registration - see information here https://www.pvpss.com/summerhsregistration/

D. Remember, summer school is not required. It is also not free. Please, if you have not already,

speak with your parents about your thoughts on or needs for summer school.

So proud of you - keep going! We are so close to this year's end and being back together someday soon,

Mrs. Sidella
